Urges civility in leadership during presentation in front of nearly 100 students
PA Supreme Court Justice P. Kevin Brobson visited 缅北强奸鈥檚 John R. Post Center at Reading CollegeTowne and the construction company of 缅北强奸 trustee Barry Schlouch on Thursday, Sept. 22.
鈥淚 want to thank the leadership team at 缅北强奸 for welcoming me here...just before I arrived on campus, I had the opportunity to tour the [O鈥橮ake Insitute鈥檚 Spark business incubator] and Reading CollegeTowne,鈥 said Justice Brobson. 鈥淚 really do believe that the schools that decide to invest in their communities, that allow the experience to bleed out of the gates, out of the walls of the university into their communities, is going to be a value proposition not only for you all as students and how you contribute to society but how you are able to learn experientially and build a community.鈥
The John R. Post Center at Reading CollegeTowne, a 250,000-square-foot living and learning facility at 401 Penn Street in downtown Reading, opened in the summer of 2021. Initially called Reading CollegeTowne, it was renamed less than a year later following the largest philanthropic gift in the university鈥檚 six-decade history.
Nearly 100 students attended Justice Brobson鈥檚 civility in leadership presentation in the Francis Hall Theatre on 缅北强奸鈥檚 main campus. He challenged the students to be kind, generous, stay true to who they are and fight for what they believe in. He answered audience questions moderated by Dr. Victoria Williams, associate professor of political science.
鈥淗ow we treat one another, even those with whom we disagree the most, can bring change within our own lives and with the lives of those who are in our circles, who are our spheres of influence,鈥 said Justice Brobson. 鈥淐ivility and collegiality are not signs of weakness; they are signs of leadership. We need more of this type of leadership in our politics, in our government and in our communities, and I believe the path forward starts by leaning into optimism.鈥
Justice Brobson was elected a justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 2021, President Judge of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania effective Jan. 4, 2021, and was previously elected as judge of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania in 2009. He also served as former Secretary and Chair of the Judicial Conduct Board of Pennsylvania from 2015-2019, and as the Jurist-in-Residence at Widener University Commonwealth Law School from 2016-2018.
